The SteelToe App is a free local business directory for tradespeople. It lists plumbers, electricians, carpenters, roofers, HVAC technicians and other trades by their trade and their town, so homeowners can find someone nearby without filling in a lead form.
No, and there never will be. The SteelToe App runs in your browser, so there is nothing to install and nothing to update. We would never ask you to choose between your baby pictures and our app.

No. This is a business directory. There is nothing to license, nothing to configure and no developer tools here. It is a directory of local businesses and the people who run them.
Searching is free and always will be, with no account. Listing a business is also free. The only thing anyone ever pays for is placement, which moves a listing higher up the page for a flat monthly price.
No. You never need an account to search, to see a phone number or to visit a business's website. There is no sign-up wall and no questionnaire.
No. We do not collect them in the first place. There is no lead form, so there is nothing to sell. You call the business directly and we are not in the middle of it.
Because we have not covered your town yet. The directory is built town by town rather than everywhere at once, so some places have plenty of listings and others have none.
Every search that comes back empty is recorded, and that record is how we decide which trades and which towns to add next. Searching for what you need genuinely helps. Help us by posting about not finding plumbers on The SteelToe App in your local groups.
A Verified badge means the business has an active paid plan and has been in touch with us. A Licensed badge means we checked a license number against the issuing board.
Anything without a badge is a listing, not a recommendation, so do your own checks before you hire.
No. The trades come first here, but the directory is open to any small business, one-person shop, maker or student with a project site. If you are doing something locally and you want people to be able to find it, you can list it free.
A permanent entry with your phone number, your website, the towns you cover and what you specialize in. It also gives you an ordinary followed link back to your own website, which is worth having.
If you have no website, add a phone number or a social media link and the listing becomes your website. Nothing expires and there is no charge when somebody calls you.
There are. Every listing gets views, clicks and a click-through rate, free or paid, and we do not paywall basic numbers.
If your free listing is showing low numbers, it is because free listings appear below the paid ones, so fewer people reach them. Only paid ads get a Days on Page calendar. The counts are real either way.
It shows which page your ad sat on each day of the month, one square per day. It is a record of the placement you paid for, kept so you can check we delivered it rather than take our word for it.
It appears only on paid plans, because a free listing makes no placement promise there would be anything to prove.
Pages one to three are for paid placements, and everything else follows below. Within the free listings the order is reshuffled every day, so nobody is permanently stuck at the bottom and nobody is permanently at the top.
It marks a business with an active paid plan. It tells a homeowner the business is active, reachable and serious enough about being found to pay for placement. It is not a background check or a quality rating.
Claim it and it is yours to edit, free. We ring the number on the listing to confirm you run the business, then the listing moves onto your account and you control what it says.
If you would rather not be listed at all, ask us and we will take it down.
No. We never charge per lead, per call or per click, and we take no commission on work you win. Placement is a flat monthly price, set in advance, so a busy month never costs more than a quiet one.
