Local moves are usually charged by the hour with a crew and a truck. Longer moves are more often a fixed price based on volume or weight. Packing, materials, storage and dismantling furniture may be included or extra, and this varies enormously between firms.
Ask whether the price is hourly or fixed, and what is specifically excluded. Ask about stairs, long carries from the door to the truck, and parking, which are the three most common surcharges. Ask what their liability actually covers if something is broken, since basic coverage is often far less than the value of the item.
