Propane suppliers deliver to a tank you either own or rent from them, on a scheduled or on-call basis. Firewood suppliers deliver by the cord or fraction of one, seasoned or green, dumped or stacked. The difference between seasoned and green wood is the difference between a fire that burns and one that smoulders.
For propane, ask whether the tank is owned or rented and what happens to your supply if you switch supplier, since a rented tank ties you in. Ask how the price is set and whether there is a delivery minimum. For firewood, ask the species, how long it has been seasoned, whether a cord is a full cord, and whether stacking is included.
Running out of heating fuel in freezing weather. Most suppliers hold emergency delivery slots, but they cost more, so call before the tank is empty rather than after.
