Jobs range from fitting new flooring over a prepared subfloor, to sanding and refinishing existing hardwood, to tiling a wet area. Much of the outcome depends on the subfloor: an uneven or damp base will show through almost any covering, and concrete usually needs a moisture test before anything goes down.
Ask whether subfloor preparation and levelling are in the quote or extra, because this is the most common surprise. Ask who removes and disposes of the old floor. Ask about acclimatising timber before fitting, and about expansion gaps, since floors that were laid tight will buckle later.
